Professor Lishuai Li
Associate Vice-President (Strategic Research), Professor, Department of Data Science, City University of Hong Kong
Included in Stanford’s list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists (2022 – 2024), Prof. Li is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. Her work focuses on developing frontier research works that transform physics-based AI into operational excellence for complex systems.
“Our mission is to create data-driven technologies that not only advance scientific understanding but also significantly improve the safety of our skies and the efficiency of our industries.”
Research
Bridging the gap between theoretical data science and real-world application in complex systems.
At the intersection of physics-based data science and artificial intelligence, our research group develops innovative solutions for the world’s most challenging operational environments. Led by Professor Lishuai Li, we focus on enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability across air transportation, the low-altitude economy, and global industrial processes.
We specialize in applying advanced data science and AI frameworks to three core domains:
1. Air Transportation Systems – Safety and Sustainability
Through our ClusterAD framework and advanced trajectory analytics, we revolutionize flight operations monitoring. By utilizing Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and surveillance data, we identify operational risks and optimize strategic decision-making, i.e. detecting flight anomalies, predicting fuel requirements, and benchmark global airspace structure and air traffic flows.
2. Low-Altitude Economy (LAE) – Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM)
As urban skies become more crowded, our CitySkyPlan technologies provide the backbone for Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM). We develop path-planning algorithms that enable large-scale, multi-operator drone delivery.
3. Industrial Intelligence – Process Optimization
We integrate Large Language Models (LLMs) and multi-sensor data to optimize manufacturing and infrastructure. From high-speed rail health monitoring to satellite predictive maintenance, we drive business and environmental metrics.
Innovation, Reach & Impact
Our work doesn’t stay in the lab. We take pride in the “ripple effect” of our research, moving from academic publication to industry-standard technology.
